Gulliver’s young scientists and engineers gathered on Wednesday, April 24, 2013 for a night dedicated to scientific and engineering discoveries. Grades five through eight attended and took part in various experiments and demonstrations for this epic night. The Science and Engineering showcase portrayed projects created in classes this year. This year, the event attracted twice as many visitors for a full house!
With schedules in hand, parents and students excitedly walked around to their designated areas, intrigued by all of the fantastic work accomplished by students. Eighth grade Physical Science students showed off their machine projects, egg drop containers, and demonstrated two different chemistry experiments. Seventh grade Life Science students created a game entitled “Are You Smarter Than a Seventh Grader?” which focused on different aspects of the human body. Sixth grade Earth Science students presented their intricate Mars Rover projects as their little machines powered their way through an obstacle course and performed tasks programmed by students. Fifth graders showed of their knowledge of Florida science by presenting their wind turbines. “I loved watching the rockets soar up and then the parachutes coming out,” said Victoria Alfonso. Engineering students presented their “dragster” cars and raced them against one another. The Science and Engineering Showcase was a magnificent success and enjoyed by those in attendance.
